How to Become an AHA Instructor

Becoming an American Heart Association instructor is easy after consulting with our American Heart Association Training Site to find out whether our Training Site (TS) is accepting new instructors and the TCF’s (Training Center Faculty) preferred course delivery. AHA requires Instructors to be aligned with an AHA Training Site/Center for training, records maintenance, program oversight, support, and student card certification source.

Pre-requisites:

In order to qualify for becoming an instructor candidate with our AHA Training Site, you must:

  1. Have a current BLS Provider certification card
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in BLS skills and in the ability to teach the programs offered by the AHA.
  3. Have a current state healthcare or educator licensure.
  4. Be 18 years of age or older.
  5. Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online

Process to become an AHA Instructor:

  1. Submit copy of current BLS Provider certification card. Copy must show front and back of card on one page.
  2. Complete AHA Instructor Essentials Online Course and submit certificate of completion. (When registration payment is received, an online key will be emailed to you to take this course)
  3. Request registration for our BLS Instructor course via email to finishstrongcpr@gmail.com. Once payment is received, we will confirm your registration and email you course details.
  4. Finish Strong CPR & Medical Training, LLC will confirm ordering of your AHA BLS Provider Instructor materials if you do not already own/have access to them through your employer.
  5. After receipt of your AHA Instructor Manual and course video package, read and review your materials prior to the Instructor course.
  6. Complete the in-class hands-on session conducted by BLS Training Center Faculty.
  7. Successfully complete instructor candidate monitoring {LINK TO INSTRUCTOR MONITORING TOOL] (teaching a course) within 6 months of completing the hands-on session BLS Instructor

INSTRUCTOR CANDIDATE FORMS: 

The steps are simple – get started today!

  1. Be accepted by your local AHA Training Center before enrolling in an Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center
  2. Have current AHA provider status in the discipline for that Instructor Course and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline. Disciplines include BLS and Heartsaver®.
  3. Successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course.
  4. Successfully be monitored teaching your first course within six months of completing the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course. Training Center Coordinators can require additional monitoring.

Once you become an Instructor, you will have access to the most current emergency cardiovascular care science, course updates, training resources and tools through the online AHA Instructor Network. You will also be able to post class dates and times to reach more students through our public website.
